| City leaders are to consult the community over a proposal for joint management of the Civic Theatre and the Stadium Southland complex, Invercargill City Council Chairman of Community Services Neil Boniface said today. Cr Boniface said both the Civic Theatre and the Stadium Southland had special significance for people in Invercargill and Southland. “We want to see them properly used, maintained and funded, so that they continue to be first class venues that attract top events to the city and remain at the heart of our community for decades to come. “I want to stress that, if the community accepts the idea of joint management, the Civic Theatre will still be owned by ratepayers and the Stadium will still be owned by the Charitable Trust. That is not going to change. | | "The aim is to have joint management to maximise the technical expertise, specialised equipment and resources of both venues, while avoiding unnecessary duplication of and cost in administrative areas. Invercargill City Council Director of Finance and Corporate Services Dean Johnston said that a jointly owned [50/50] Council Controlled Organisation would be formed to undertake the management of both facilities. The proposed amendment to the Long Term Plan and proposal to develop a separate Council Controlled Organisation will go out for public consultation on Wednesday, February 10 until Wednesday, March 10.
