About Bluff
Bluff is important to Invercargill because it is the city's port and is home to the local fishing industry.
The township has a strong Community Board whose members are passionate about promoting and enhancing the area for residents and visitors alike. Examples include the Bluff redevelopment project (opened in December 2008 and the Bluff Community Board Bursary.
The Stirling Point upgrade and Chain Link Sculpture were completed in December 2008. The upgrade was opened by Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt, and the sculpture by Alison Broad, former chairwoman of the Community Trust. Community Board chairwoman Jan Mitchell noted that the ceremonies also marked the 157th anniversary of the death of William Stirling, the man after whom the area was named.
Meanwhile, the organisers of the annual Bluff Oyster & Food Festival have named the day for the 2011 event: Saturday, May 21.
