Civic honours
Council awards are made to performing artists, for community service and to recognise restoration and/or quality development in the city.
Civic Honours Awards for Community Service
The triennial Civic Honours Awards recognise meritorious voluntary service of Invercargill citizens in one or more of the following categories: recreation, youth activities, social welfare, educational services, cultural services, religious affairs, community affairs. Candidates must be nomiated by two Invercargill citizens. Recipients of the Civic Honours Awards for Community Service are presented with a certificate and a silver civic award pin.
Recent winners include netball stalwart Monica Burns, historian and educator Lloyd Esler and William Maginn for his dedicated welfare work for the Invercargill Returned Services Association.
Nominations for 2010 closed on Friday, June 25.
Civic Plaques
The Council presents Civic Plaques in appreciation for restoration of buildings, new development and promotion, and to recognise quality development in the City Centre and heritage areas.
