TrustPower Awards

If your voluntary organisation has been working hard during the past 12 months and deserves recognition, why not nominate it for a TrustPower Community Awards?

Invercargill City Council Community Development Manager Mary Napper said any voluntary group or volunteer-based not-for-profit organisation was eligible for the awards, which recognised past achievements or work undertaken by volunteers during the previous 12 months.

“It’s not for individuals but rather groups of volunteers who have worked together as a group on a project that they are really proud of,” Ms Napper said.

Last year’s Southland winner, the Teen Parent Unit, went on to place highly commended in the national awards.
Ms Napper said the number of volunteers in the community was declining. “This is a chance to acknowledge and praise the work they have been doing and encourage them to keep up the good work.”

The Invercargill and Southland awards are divided into five categories: Heritage and Environment, Health and Well-being, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure and Education and Child/Youth Development. The winner of each category will receive $500 and the supreme winner receives $1500, a trophy and an all-expenses paid trip to participate in the TrustPower National Community Awards.

Nominations close on September 16.
