Aviary, animals, gardens
The Parks Division welcomes schools and interest groups to experience a guided tour of the Aviary, Animal Reserve and Winter Gardens. A guided tour with an experienced staff member will give students a better understanding of the birds and animals on show.
The Queens Park Aviary has recognised the educational potential of close encounters with some of the world’s most exotic and captivating birds. To assist schools with their visit to the Aviary a curriculum-based booklet of activities called Remarkable Birds has been produced. This booklet helps teachers achieve the best educational outcomes from their visit to Queens Park Aviary.
Remarkable Birds is a science document produced for schools that provides a background resource and information for teachers. It contains pre-visit activities to establish current knowledge and activities for use during the visit to the Aviary. Themed and species interpretation panels at the Aviary provide the basis of activities for an aviary visit.
Whenever possible, a Queens Park staff member will meet and greet school groups and introduce them to the Aviary. Bookings are essential.
Remarkable Birds: an educational resource
The Animal Reserve
The Animal Reserve has been redeveloped to provide a more accessible and inviting area within the park. These developments include a pet area for children to have hands-on access to some of the animals and, when complete, will include an educational classroom for student groups.
As with the Aviary, whenever possible a Queens Park staff member will meet and greet school groups and introduce them to the Animal Reserve. Bookings are essential.
A guided tour of the Winter Gardens will provide an interesting insight into the extensive collection of tropical and sub-tropical plants on display. Again, whenever possible, a Queens Park staff member will meet and greet groups and introduce them to the Winter Gardens. Bookings are essential.
