Maintenance and inspection of street Lighting
The Council is responsible for providing and maintaining street lighting in Invercargill and Bluff. This service is undertaken by the Council's contractor, Network Electrical Servicing Ltd, which inspects street lighting regularly and replaces flickering or faulty light bulbs etc.
Street lights are provided to light up the roads, parks, public places and surrounding areas for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Street lighting also provides a feeling of personal security.
On all main streets, highways and heavy traffic areas the Council has installed high powered street lighting for greater illumination and safety.
Lighting Upgrade Project
Street lighting is gradually being upgraded, to meet modern standards of illumination. This upgrade is being done at the same time as Powernet's replacement of overhead electricity power lines, to underground lines.
