The Council has waste transfer stations at Bluff and Invercargill for the disposal of general waste, garden waste, car bodies, recyclable items and hazardous materials such as batteries.
The Council compacts and trucks any general waste from the transfer stations to the region's landfill site near Winton.
Any green waste (such as lawn clippings, tree prunings and other garden waste) is shredded and composted.
Hazardous materials are disposed of accordingly by the Council, and any recycleable materials donated are sold at the privately owned The Garage Recyling Shop.
It is important to note that soil is not allowed in the green waste dumping area, and should be dumped with the general waste.
