Swim School

Splishing and splashing - and learning - at the Palace.

The Swim School's aim is to provide confidence for children in and around water and to advance pupils' abiliities to a level where they can participate in aquatic sports and other recreational activities.  "In the water teaching" for babies to beginners is part of the unique programme offered by the school's qualified, professional and dedicated swim teachers. Small class sizes ensure individual tuition. Achievement certificates are awarded at the end of each course.

Teachers

Splash Swim School has 14 trained teachers. They all hold or are working towards their ASTA award, and three teachers have a Diploma in Swim Teaching. Each teacher has a current first aid certificate and Pool Lifeguard award. Splash Palace is also a Quality Swim School, a standard set by Swimming New Zealand.

Classes

The following prices apply from October 1, 2011, and include pool entry and GST at 15%.

• Tadpoles: 6 to 18 months, 8 x 30 minute lessons one day a week Monday, Tuesday or Saturday mornings, $71.50. 
• Frogs: 18 months to 2 years, 8 30 minute lessons one day a week Monday, Tuesday or Saturday mornings, $71.50.
• Turtles: 3 to 5 years. 10 x 30 minute lessons Tuesday and Saturday mornings, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. $78.80 
• Lobsters: School-age, beginner class. 10 x 30 minute lessons one day a week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 3.30 also Saturday mornings. $91.50.
• Porpoises: School-age, breather class. 10 x 30 minute lessons one day a week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 3.30 also Saturday morning. $91.50.
• Dolphins: School-age. Have to be able to swim 20m confidently to go in this class. Held in main pool. One day a week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 3.30 also Saturday mornings. $91.50.
• Sharks: School-age. Have to be able to swim 50m to go in this class. Held in main pool. 10 x 30 minute lessons one day a week Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 3.30 also Saturday mornings. $91.50.
• Penguins: School age. Have to be able to swim 200m to go in this class. Held in main pool. Tuesday and Thursday 4.30pm. $91.50.  
• Seals: School-age. Show good technique in 3 strokes. 10 x 45 minute lessons Tuesday and Thursday at 3.45pm, Monday and Wednesday at 5pm or Saturday mornings. $97.80.
• Mussels: School-age. Show good technique in 4 strokes. 10 x 1 hour classes held either Tuesday or Thursday at 5.00. $103. 
• Eels: In this class you have been identified as a swimmer with talent. Term - 45-minute class twice a week Monday and Wednesday 3.30. $126.30 
• Crocodiles: At this level you will be able to swim 100m individual medley, you will get advanced skills training in all four strokes. Term - 45-minute classes twice a week Monday and Wednesday at 4pm. $126.30.
• Adult: These class cover beginner adults to people wanting a bit of stroke technique. 8 x 30 minute lessons, Monday at 8pm. $91.50.

Swim School holiday offers, dates and pricing

Learn to Swim lessons are held during the April, July and September/October school holidays. Classes are always in the morning. Prices for five lessons over 1 week from $47 (includes pool entry and GST).

• April dates (five lessons): Monday, April 16 to Friday, April 20.
