Committees

The Council has four committees which are responsible for providing services: Community Services, Regulatory Services, Finance and Policy, and Infrastructure and Services.

The role of the committees is to discuss and make decisions about the day-to-day business such as community-related issues, new and existing policies etc. Membership of the committees comprises the elected Councillors. The Council decides the membership of each committee, based on the recommendations of the Mayor. The Mayor is an ex-officio member of all standing committees, and all Councillors are members of the Finance and Policy committee chaired by Deputy Mayor Jackie Kruger.

Infrastructure and Services 

The Infrastructure and Services Committee deals with water, roading, solid waste management, operational property management, footpaths, drainage, street lighting, parks and reserves, cemeteries and the crematorium, public toilets, Vibrant and CBD issues, and urban renewal. The committee:

Community Services

The Community Services Committee deals with swimming pools, public passenger transport and Total Mobility, libraries, museum, halls and theatres, community support, Safer Community porgrammes, security cameras, youth activities and housing for the elderly. The committee:

Regulatory Services

The Regulatory Services Committee deals with liquor licensing policy, bylaws, environmental health, dog and animal control, resource management, building and plumbing, noise, parking control, litter, and dangerous goods. The committee:

Finance and Policy  

The Finance and Policy Committee deals with Council-controlled organisations, rating, funding and borrowing policy, joint committee monitoring, public consultation, grants, electoral, investments and investment policy, sister cities, and with  general policy, strategic planning, and the Long Term Council Community Plan.
