Mayors down the years
Invercargill has been served by 43 Mayors since 1871. William Wood was the first Mayor; C.S. Longuet was the Mayor when "Greater" Invercargill was created on January 10, 1910, and J.D. Campbell was the Mayor when Invercargill was proclaimed a city on March 1, 1930.
The city's only female Mayor was the late Eve Poole. Current Mayor Tim Shadbolt is the longest-serving leader of the city.
