Weighbridge to be replaced at Transfer Station

Work to replace a weighbridge at the Invercargill Transfer Station is set to begin at the end of the month.

Invercargill City Council Contracts and Commercial Manager Mark Simpson said the work, which will see the incoming weighbridge at the transfer station on Bond St replaced with a newer, longer model, was scheduled to begin on Monday 28 April, and would continue for about a month.

While work was under way, all incoming and outgoing traffic would have to use the existing outwards weighbridge, which would be controlled by temporary traffic lights, on a one-way system.

“Unfortunately, this may mean customers experience some delays, so we’re asking that people plan ahead and allow plenty of time to get in and out of the transfer station,” he said.

People were also asked to delay dropping off any non-urgent rubbish during this time, to help mitigate delays to traffic coming in and out, he said.

“We know that’s not always going to be possible, but we’d really appreciate the community’s cooperation to ensure we can minimise disruption as much as possible.”

Having a longer weighbridge would reduce the risk of error when weighing vehicles, he said.

The work would cost $110,000 and had been budgeted for in Council’s Long-term Plan, he said.
