How can I vote?
You need to be enrolled to vote in local body elections. You can enrol to vote until the end of day on 10 October 2025, either online or in person at our special vote locations listed below. If you would like to check your enrolment details, visit the Electoral Commission website.
Voting starts on 9 September 2025. From this date, voting packs will begin arriving in mailboxes. Our providers (DX Mail and NZ Post) have until 22 September to complete delivery of all packs.
Once you have your pack, you can fill in your voting papers at home and post them in an NZ Post or DX Mail postbox, or drop them off in an orange Vote Murihiku voting bin (find the locations of these below).
If you do not receive your voting papers in the mail, you will need to cast a special vote.
Who can cast a special vote?
You can cast a special vote if you:
- have not received a voting pack in the mail
- have lost or damaged your voting pack
- enrolled to vote after the roll closed on 1 August 2025 but before election day
- will be travelling during the voting period
- are eligible to vote but your name does not appear on the final electoral roll
- are turning 18 after the roll closes but before election day on 11 October 2025
Your special vote will only be counted if your enrolment details are up to date. Before casting a special vote:
- check that your details are correct on the electoral roll
- bring identification if you need to enrol at the same time
How can I do a special vote?
Special voting opens on 9 September 2025. You can make a special vote at:
- Te Hīnaki – Civic Building (Esk Street, Invercargill)
- Bluff Service Centre
- Vote Murihiku Hub at Invercargill Central Mall
