Spruced up leisure pool set to reopen early

Work to install new foam tile flooring in the leisure pool at Invercargill’s Splash Palace has been completed ahead of schedule.

Invercargill City Council Aquatic Services Manager Stephen Cook said he was delighted the pool would be back in action soon, after its temporary closure to replace the flooring began on Monday 3 March.

The pool was originally scheduled to reopen on Monday 24 March, but would be reopened to the public on Saturday 22 March.

“We really want to thank the community for being so patient and understanding as we worked to get the leisure pool back into tip-top shape. Getting the job done was a critical piece of maintenance work, and crucial to ensuring our facility is up to standard for our
visitors,” he said.

Work to replace the foam tile flooring in the leisure pool included time to drain the pool and remove its existing tiles, the installation of the replacement tiles, and a third week to allow the new flooring to completely dry before the pool was refilled. The work was largely covered under the warranty for the previous tiles, he said.

“We are really pleased that we’ve wrapped work up early, and the pool is looking as good as new. The whole process went really seamlessly, and it was great to see the work being carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible, which ultimately reduced the disruption to pool users. We’re excited to welcome people back for a splash on Saturday,” Cook said.
