Food, culture and heritage enthusiasts are being
invited to celebrate the history of the Civic Theatre in style, with a
one-of-a-kind dining experience to mark the venue’s 120-year anniversary.
Dinner
in the Spotlight
on
13 November would feature a five-course meal on the Civic Theatre stage, with
a menu from MASH Catering, a selection of Domaine Thomson wines and
entertainment by performers from Invercargill Musical Theatre.

City Council Venues and Events Manager Ryan
Sycamore said it was a chance to see the Civic Theatre through the eyes of the celebrated
entertainers who had graced the stage over the years, which was the perfect way to celebrate 120 years of the theatre.
“Most of us are used to sitting in the auditorium and
watching from the audience. This dinner is a
chance to step onto the stage, be in the spotlight and experience the Civic Theatre
from a totally new perspective.”
The
five-course dinner menu would feature a selection of local meat, seafood and
fresh produce, showcasing flavours from across the region.
“The
theatre is all about telling stories, and Southland has an incredible food
story that has developed alongside the history of our city,” Sycamore said.
“The
Civic was here as this story evolved, from the early days when sheep and cattle
grazed in Queens Park to the transformation of Invercargill into a regional
centre with a modern dining scene.”
MASH
Catering Chef Mat Jackson said the event was
a chance to showcase local food in a unique setting.
“It’s
great to collaborate with the Civic Theatre to create something a little
different, bringing together layers of incredible food and entertainment to
deliver a truly unique event experience,” Jackson said.
“We’re
excited to showcase what we do in such an iconic space and be a part of an
evening that’s about so much more than just dinner.”
