E-bike loan scheme

Invercargill and Bluff businesses - keen to support healthier lifestyles and lower transport emissions in the community - can take part in an initiative to borrow e-bikes for kaimahi (staff).

Invercargill City Council – with the support of Active Southland – offers local businesses the opportunity to borrow a fleet of e-bikes.

What is the e-bike loan initiative?

The initiative allows people to give e-bikes a go, without the upfront costs or commitment of purchasing their own. The scheme began as part of Council’s Innovating Streets programme, to reimagine public spaces within Invercargill and create better connectivity within the city.

The scheme opens up the opportunity for alternative transport methods, and makes e-biking a more accessible option for a greater number of people within the community.

How does the initiative work?

Three e-bikes are available.

The standard loan period is for four weeks, but this can be flexible depending on factors such as weather conditions, or how many staff wish to trial the bikes.

Who can take part in the programme?

Any business in Invercargill or Bluff can take part.

The main criteria for businesses keen to be involved is a commitment to promoting a sustainable community, and having a safe place to store and charge the bikes during the loan period.

What is provided?

An e-bike, charger, helmet, bike lock and key, and a handy how-to guide.
