Event set to celebrate love in all forms at He Waka Tuia
A special event at He Waka Tuia promises a Valentine’s Day celebration that is creative, meaningful, and full of heart.
He Waka Tuia is now taking registrations for its inaugural Paint Ya Person event. Participants are invited to celebrate love, in all its forms, with a portrait-painting experience at the Invercargill gallery.
He Waka Tuia Manager Sarah Brown said the event was about celebrating love in all its forms – romantic, platonic, family, and everything in between.
“Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romance, it’s about connection. We wanted to create an experience where people could celebrate the relationships that are meaningful to them – whether that’s couples, best friends, siblings, or parents and their adult children – and create joyful moments together. It’s not about being an artistic genius. It’s about being present with somebody you love,” she said.
“Sharing a creative experience together is a really powerful way to connect, and some of the best moments happen when you’re laughing and enjoying life together. The joy is in the process, not in perfection,” she said.
In a relaxed and welcoming environment, Paint Ya Person would include all painting materials, food and refreshments, and – at the end of the night – two one-of-a-kind portraits to take home, gift, or treasure.
The cost per pair was $50, and with spaces limited to just 20 pairs, early booking was essential, Brown said.
“A lot of people are looking for experiences, rather than things, and Paint Ya Person gives you both – a shared memory, and something meaningful to take home as a keepsake.”
Budding artists could email hello@hewakatuia.nz to register.
