Weighbridge at Invercargill Transfer Station to be replaced

Work to replace a weighbridge at the Invercargill Transfer Station is set to begin on Thursday, 10 September and will be ongoing for about a month.

Invercargill City Council Acting Group Manager Infrastructure Jonathan Shaw said the work would replace the over 30-year-old outgoing weighbridge at the transfer station on Bond St replaced with a newer model.

While work was under way, all incoming and outgoing traffic would have to use the existing incoming weighbridge, which would be controlled by temporary traffic lights, on a one-way system.

“We expect there may be some delays during the works, so we’re asking people to plan ahead and allow a little extra time when visiting the transfer station,” he said.

People were also asked to delay dropping off any non-urgent rubbish during this time, to help mitigate delays to traffic coming in and out, he said.

“We appreciate this may be an inconvenience for customers using the transfer station and we thank everyone for their patience while the work is underway.”

When leaving the transfer station, customers will be on the opposite side of the weighbridge from the payment kiosk and may need to get out of their vehicle to pay.

“We ask people to take extra care when doing so and be mindful of moving traffic and uneven surfaces or other trip hazards.”

The work would cost $95,000 and had been budgeted for in Council’s Long-term Plan, he said.
