Joining the Youth Council
If you are aged between 12 and 24 years, are interested in engaging in the Council decision-making processes and wish to increase the Council’s understanding of young people’s perspectives and needs, this opportunity might be for you.
Our recruitment process opens towards the end of the calendar year and involves applications from school nominees as well as members from the community.
You need to live, work or study in the Invercargill City area and be available for meetings on Wednesdays from 4pm.

What is the Youth Council?
The Invercargill City Youth Council exists to empower rangatahi (young people) by ensuring that their voices are heard on local matters and during Council decision-making processes.
The Youth Council is made up of up to 25 rangatahi aged 12 to 24 who gather every 4 weeks with additional engagement opportunities available in between. Youth Council members explore the workings of Council, share fresh ideas from a youth perspective, get involved with local community organisations and actively connect with other young people of Invercargill. Above all, they foster new friendships and have a great time together!
