Rates rebate
What is a rates rebate?
A rates rebate is a partial discount on a rates bill — you pay less for your rates.
If you own your home and are on a low income, you may be eligible for a rates rebate. Whether you’re eligible and how much you get depends on, for example:
- the total amount of rates you pay
- how many dependants live with you
- your total household income before tax
- the ownership of your property
- your living situation
- if you have a SuperGold card.
Updates to who can apply
The Government has updated the eligibility criteria for the 2026/2027 Rates Rebate Scheme, which means more property owners may now qualify for a rebate.
If you didn’t qualify in previous years, you may be eligible this year due to changes in income thresholds and other criteria. We encourage all eligible ratepayers to check their eligibility and apply. You can learn more about rates rebates, including application details on the NZ Government website: Get a rates rebate | NZ Government
