The centrally-located Invercargill Public Library can be found at 50 Dee St.

Invercargill City Library and Archives boasts an extensive collection of books, audiobooks, DVDs, and digital resources, catering to diverse interests and age groups. Specialized collections include:
- Local History Archives: Explore Southland's rich history through photographs, maps, and documents
- Southland Oral History Project: Listen to firsthand accounts from local residents, capturing personal stories and experiences
- Large Print and Dyslexia-Friendly Resources: Accessible materials to support diverse reading needs

The library's Archives, conveniently located within the same building, house a wealth of historical records. Access is by appointment, and free, in-person research assistance is also available. (Remote services are available for a fee.) The online catalogue is a valuable resource for those researching, and Archives also welcomes donations of historical materials related to Southland's history for preservation purposes.
The library is also home to a regular roster of events and programmes to encourage community participation. From low-impact strength and balance classes, device drop-ins, Justice of the Peace services, and the ever-popular Crafternoon tea, there is something for everyone.
