Te Moutere – Tuatara Island

Located in the Animal Reserve at Queens Park, Te Moutere - Tuatara Island is home to a very special colony of southern tuatara. Endemic to New Zealand, tuatara can live for more than 100 years, and here at this specially designed facility, they enjoy the height of reptile living.

Te Moutere is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm daily.

Animal Reserve

Get up close and personal with rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, guinea fowl and exotic animals such as wallabies, alpacas and our ostrich, Petra.

The Animal Reserve is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm daily.

You can book a free Animal and Aviary Tour every Tuesday and Thursday from 10.30am - 11.45am.

Aviary

Unique native and exotic birdlife can be observed at close quarters in the Queens Park Aviary, first opened in 1998.

Duck pond

A bronze statue of Peter Pan greets visitors to the popular duck pond, which was built between 1912 and 1917.

The duck pond and waterways in Queens Park are home to native tuna (eels).
