Wandering dogs
Dog owners must make sure that their dog is under control at all times. They can do this by keeping the dog within their property through appropriate fenced, or being with the dog on the property. All of Invercargill is on-lead unless the area is a designated off-leash area. These can be found here on page 14 onwards of the Dog Control Bylaw.
A wandering dog can behave differently outside its own property and is more likely to attack or put itself in danger. Our Animal Control Officers are asked to pick up any dogs they see on the streets, or when they receive reports of a wandering dog.
If you see a dog wandering contact the Council's Animal Services team on (03) 211 1777.
